I didn’t fully grasp what I was stepping into when I first started, but over the years, I have come to love every aspect of this way of life. From successes to setbacks, every experience has been an opportunity to grow and improve.This site has evolved over the years, chronicling life on the homestead—children playing with their first hens in the grass, the first fruit trees planted, the first hogs butchered, and the first dairy cow laid to rest. My mission for Reformation Acres is to encourage and support you in pursuing your homesteading dream, no matter your circumstances or obstacles. Homesteading isn’t about where you live—it’s about how you live. If you’re taking an active role in your food production, you are a homesteader.For the Christian agrarian, homesteading is about exercising dominion over the Lord’s Creation and practicing mindful stewardship of the land and livestock. Your property, with all its imperfections, is a blessing and a calling. Homestead it to the glory of God!I love the name Reformation Acres because it represents transformation. Whether you’re preserving food from a container garden on your deck, tending backyard chickens, or managing a full-scale farmstead, your outlook on life changes in the process.I still remember my early days of homesteading. My wonderful mother-in-law took me under her wing, teaching me how to start a garden—from knowing when to start seeds and identifying weeds to preserving the harvest through canning, jellies, and freezing. I remember feeling so accomplished when I canned my first tomatoes in our city apartment, all the while dreaming of one day owning a place in the country.A couple of years later, that dream came true. We moved to our own place—a property overgrown with brush, with an old barn that looked like its roof could collapse under the weight of the snow at any moment. But we couldn’t have been happier. We set out to restore the land and manage it as best we could.

As we work toward greater self-sufficiency—knowing where our food comes from and what’s in it—we continue to grow in skill and knowledge. We make mistakes, but each one helps us improve. We strive to give back to the land as it gives to us, and we want to walk alongside you in this journey so we can grow together.Here at Reformation Acres, I hope to share what I’ve been learning in the gardens and around the homestead. My goal is to encourage you as you walk the path of your own homesteading journey and follow your dream. I want to help you keep the ‘simple’ in the simple life by managing orderly, abundant, and joyful farms. I want you to be inspired to acquire new knowledge and skills. I want you to take control of your health and learn to build a natural herbal medicine cabinet—to provide the best food possible for your family and experience the satisfaction that comes from doing it with your own hands and hard work.Whether you’re just starting or have been homesteading for years, I hope Reformation Acres remains a place of encouragement, inspiration, and community.
