About WideFountain

As a student, my fascination with Asian history sparked a determination to contribute to constructive relations between the U. S. and countries in the region. After a rewarding career in business and government throughout the Indo-Pacific, these posts will share some insights on how regional problems may be resolved for the mutual benefit of all.

Grounded in the belief that 'those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,' Wide Fountain—named after the building that housed the first American trading company in China over 180 years ago— will lean on history to inform our current circumstances.

The forum begins with an exploration of what I refer to as the 'Ye-Xi Clique'—a previously unexamined (and unidentified) network in China that I believe set in motion a series of events that created significant challenges for many nations and gave China a reputation it would prefer to avoid.
