About The Long Game

The Long Game is written by me, Molly Knight, a journalist and author based in Los Angeles. I’ve written for ESPN the Magazine, The Athletic, the New York Times Magazine, Men’s Health, SELF, Rolling Stone, Marie Claire, Vulture, Vanity Fair, Variety and a lot of other great places. I also wrote the book, The Best Team Money Can Buy: The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Wild Struggle to Build a Baseball Powerhouse, which was a New York Times Non-Fiction Bestseller and a Finalist for the Pen America Award for Literary Sportswriting.

What You Get

The Free Friday Post

A weekly digest of MLB news and other things Molly Knight finds entertaining. Here are some faves:

"They Elected a White Sox Fan Pope"

"Five Things More Awkward Than Watching Pete Alonso Leg Out a Triple"

"You Cannot Erase Jackie Robinson"

"Boston Man Fired 1,312 Days After Trading Mookie Betts"

"Drag Culture Has Always Been a Part of Major League Baseball"

Midweek Posts

1-2 deep dives on one topic, unlike the Friday round-up. Some examples: a takedown of an owner behaving badly ("Nepo Baby John Fisher Gets His Wish, Moves One Step Closer to Ripping A's Away From Oakland"), a close look at a manufacturer behaving badly (“Nike's New Uniform Pants are See-Through and Everyone is Furious”), an examination of the MLB commissioner’s public relations issues ("Rob Manfred Speaks, Nation Groans"), a personal essay on being at the Freddie Freeman World Series grand slam game with a six-year-old niece ("Freddie Freeman Forever"), and witnessing the death of baseball in Oakland (“The End of the Oakland A’s”).
