I started this newsletter in January 2025 as an exploration of horror films and psychological thrillers — chiefly, what they can teach us about body politics, gender expression and roles, and race and its role in White supremacy.
Now, it has transformed into something so much more expansive. I have started excavating the depths of Black cinema and Blackness on screen, as well as queerness, national identity, and geographic history in the role of film.
I’m looking forward to bringing my readers more GUT REACTIONS; this time, with the DC/DOX film festival, I’m excited to write reviews of non-fiction works that evoke and provoke like the fiction films I have reviewed.
I’m excited to give more fresh perspectives in my SENSUAL TERRORS weekly dispatch, with the upcoming Lincoln Center programming, “The Other America: A Cosmology of Jordan Peele’s Us. ”
I have also spent all of May and June 2025 doing research (including a reporting trip to a horror archive!
