About Nicole Lavelle
Welcome to PILES. I’m Nicole, an artist, designer, and writer who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area*. I don’t make paintings or drawings or sculptures; my art is more like conversations, printed words, gatherings, image collections, and other things made in collaboration with groups of people. I think a lot about place, identity, and community, and the ways those things influence each other.
I used to have a robust mail practice: I printed out a physical letter, stuffed it into also-printed envelopes, and mailed it to a hundred friends. Sometimes my post office people would bring special stamps for me from other post offices.
