About Phoebe Fry

Hello and welcome! I’m Phoebe, the Brooklyn-based cook, writer, and illustrator behind The Dish.

My cooking style was shaped by my time at Ballymaloe Cookery School in Ireland and Alice Waters’s Rome Sustainable Food Project in Italy, where seasonality and sustainability reign supreme — as well as by working the line at my favorite restaurants in New York City, Cervo’s and Hart’s. As a writer and illustrator, I take inspiration from the kitchen above all else, which you’ll find reflected in The Dish.

I started writing The Dish in September 2021 as a way to share stories and lessons from my 12-week course at Ballymaloe. When the course ended, I kept writing — about cooking, eating, my life, and all sorts of miscellaneous recommendations and appreciations.
