What is Next Metro?
Next Metro is a blog all about and all for transit, infrastructure, urban spaces, and their transformation by Reece Martin, a former YouTuber, software developer, rock climber, and fifteen other things. Reece moved to Toronto because of its exciting transit expansion and huge scale that dwarfed his hometown of Vancouver on Canada’s West Coast. (Reece also runs the blog Cinq Personnes about self improvement and personal growth)
Next Metro looks at public transit systems, expansion, and technologies both in Toronto and around the world, drawing common lessons, identifying unique situations, and mapping out a possibility space for urban mass transit. Far too often something is deemed “impossible” in one city, while it’s simultaneously regular practice somewhere on the other side of the planet.
The goal of Next Metro (like Reece’s previous “RMTransit” YouTube channel) is to teach people how public transport works around the world, and encourage people to become knowledgeable about the topic on a global scale, as well as to exchange ideas, and try to solve common problems — sometimes with time tested solutions, and sometimes with entirely new ones.
