About molly flinkman
Hello! It’s me, hi. I’m Molly.
This story starts with a Mary Oliver poem (as many of my stories do).
This one in particular is titled “I Want to Write Something So Simply,” and in it, MO perfectly articulates all my hopes for my own writing:
I want to write somethingso simplyabout loveor about painthat evenas you are readingyou feel itand as you readyou keep feeling itand though it be my storyit will be common, though it be singularit will be known to youso that by the endyou will think—no, you will realize—that it was all the whileyourself arranging the words, that it was all the timewords that you yourself, out of your own hearthad been saying.
-from Evidence: Poems (bold emphasis, mine)
I have always hoped my stories would feel common—that, though no one else shares my exact lived experiences, others might recognize the themes and tendencies and movements in their own lives.
