Welcome to Muhajir, a newsletter about what moves me. Muhajir is the Urdu word for migrant. In Pakistan, muhajirs are the demographic group that braved the Partition to live and settle in Sindh, and their descendants. People like my grandparents, my mother, and myself. But the word itself goes back much further. It comes from the same word, muhajir, in Arabic, that goes all the way back to the beginning of the calendar.
