About Kelly Schirmann

I’m a writer, potter and occasional teacher from Humboldt County, California. I made FIELD NOTES to hold seasonal thoughts, feelings, sketches, and demos : infrequent vessels between books or albums (to hold your flowers or your pens). Into the multivalent smear of image and action that is daily life (now) I hope this infrastructure can wedge itself between talking and streaming, long physical conversation and the way we know one another these days: in bits and posts held at sheer distances. I like to read writing that maps a mind. And so I want to write to you as I would talk to you.

Here is what I think and talk about: what it’s like to be an artist (now); what happens on a walk, alone and with others; the shaping of an open field of time; the shaping of crowd-thoughts and their reverberation into my private world; my private world; mediated information; ineffable yearnings; the ambient machine droning of capital and culture; earth and its accumulated knowledge; how to remain a poet, open-hearted, and juice-seeking; and the animal body disappearing into the woods.
