Me & My Intentions

I’m a mechanical engineer with a psychology degree who brings a somewhat different perspective to technical issues. I have spent 25 years in the power power industry with direct experience in power plant maintenance engineering and operations, integrated resource planning, transmission system planning, power system operations planning and engineering, electricity market operations, safety and environment management, and supply chain management. During my 15 years in Alberta, I have gained extensive knowledge of Alberta’s regulatory structure, market design, and electricity policy framework.

My intent with this Substack is to promote electricity literacy by sharing my power industry operational knowledge and experience to help non-industry people develop an appreciation for the complexity and importance of our power systems, provide some operational facts in an ocean of power system opinions, and provide objective information to (hopefully) help policy makers craft electricity policies and make investment decisions that support power system reliability, affordability, operability, and sustainability.
