About SHIMIZU Akira
Most images of Japan focus on the spectacular — historic temples, crowded crossings, seasonal beauty, or futuristic cities.
Yet everyday life in Japan exists somewhere else: in quiet residential streets, empty parking lots, faded signs, riverbanks, convenience store lights at night, and places that rarely become photographs.
JAPAN ORDINARY -photos- is an ongoing photographic project dedicated to documenting these ordinary landscapes.
I photograph places that are neither famous nor intentionally beautiful. They are familiar spaces — often ignored, sometimes disappearing — that quietly shape daily life in Japan.
This project is not about nostalgia or tourism.
