When Virginia became the 38th and final state required to complete the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment on January 27, 2020, American women believed that at long last, our equality under the law would finally be recognized. Instead, the federal government refused to publish the amendment — blocking the constitutional protections women have fought for over a century to secure.
EQUAL MEANS EQUAL has spent years fighting to correct this injustice. Despite political pressure, misinformation, and institutional resistance, we continue to pursue the only path that can secure enforceable equality for women and girls: publication and enforcement of the Equal Rights Amendment under Article V of the Constitution.
Today, EQUAL MEANS EQUAL is the plaintiff in EQUAL MEANS EQUAL v. Donald Trump, the federal lawsuit demanding that the government honor its constitutional obligation to publish the ERA.
