About Molly Jean Bennett

Let’s rip shit up

Hey there! I’m Molly Jean and this is Digital Seam Ripper, a newsletter about the intersections of clothing production, technology, and social history. This subject holds particular interest for me because it sits at the crossroads of (a) my career as a software engineer (b) my extra-curricular interest in making, wearing, and yapping about clothing, and (c) my education in the arts and humanities that leads me to believe that everything, everything, everything is connected.

Before I transitioned into the tech field via a software development bootcamp, I dabbled in all sorts of things: I worked as the personal assistant to an author and heiress, side-hustled as a freelance food writer, had terrible admin jobs at non-profits, got an MFA in poetry, and briefly delivered food on my bike. Not all of these experiences were pleasant, but they deepened my belief that there’s an interesting story of power, exploitation, and human creativity behind pretty much everything. Now I’m training that viewpoint on clothing, which is something I have always been interested in but not always allowed myself to enjoy.
