I write to explore my emerging neuroqueer identity and newfound emotions as I heal from decades prescribed harm, psychiatric drug injury, and withdrawal. This includes the complex intersections of neurodivergence, queerness, childhood trauma, spirituality, and my efforts to “break up” with the dominant medical/mental health model.
Like so many of us who were put on SSRIs as teenagers, I am now suffering from the fallout of decades of psychiatric “treatment” that altered the course of my life. And not in a good way.
