Planting Trees is dedicated to breaking through the feelings of hopelessness that haunt many of us and spurring action. It’s also reflective of a deeply held belief that effective action requires clear-eyed understanding of where we are and how we got here.
That means this space is mostly a mix of (1) calls to action, electoral and otherwise, broken down for beginners to plug in, (2) short reactions to current events, and (3) longer reflections on the day-to-day of the United States and how we got here.
In March 2025, I resigned from my job at a large corporate law firm and briefly blanketed the airwaves. The Trump Administration was engaged in an intimidation campaign to scare firms out of challenging the President in court, and my resignation was the culmination of internal and external organizing to spur an industry-wide response.
