About Carne Ross
This newsletter offers unusual and penetrating insight into world events, the deeper forces and systems that shape them, and sometimes the culture that sustains the current system.
I’m a former British diplomat, innovator in diplomacy, and adviser to democratic countries and political movements worldwide. I’m also a writer and ‘gentle’ anarchist, and a student of complexity theory, systems analysis, post-structuralism, and ontological systems.
I resigned from my diplomatic post over the Iraq War after giving secret evidence to the first official inquiry, which revealed that the government had lied about WMD and broken international law.
Since then, I founded Independent Diplomat, a non-profit diplomatic advisory group, through which I've worked on political change globally. This work has given me unusual insights into places from Syria to the Western Sahara or Kosovo, and has taught me what it’s like to be on the margins of the dominant state system, whether as a leader of a liberation movement or a refugee.
