Hello, I’m crime fiction author Carmen Amato.
The Crime Fiction Files is where I take you behind the scenes of my 30-year career with the CIA and reveal the encounters and experiences that underscore my books, including the Detective Emilia Cruz series. She’s the first female police detective in Acapulco, confronting cartels, corruption and social inequality amid the hunt for Mexico’s missing.
Emilia Cruz was inspired by a career that included counterdrug operations and technical collection to counter national security threats. The lessons I learned then about risk, power, and resilience shape my writing today.
