I have been writing about gender for almost five years now, and much of what I wrote in the beginning would not be published today. Indeed, while I am grateful to be able to borrow the platforms of major news organizations to share ideas, many have now restricted what they’ll publish, either due to fear of backlash or because they honestly believe that we should only examine one side of complicated stories because it’s too dangerous to take a more prismatic look.
