About me
I’m a Belfast based historian and writer. My first book Hotel Lux was shortlisted for History Book of the Year at the Irish Book Awards and was chosen as one of the Irish Times Best Books of 2024.
I completed my doctoral studies in History at Oxford University in 2020 and since then have completed research projects in Boston College, Queen’s University Belfast and - most recently - Cambridge University.
My areas of expertise include modern Irish history, the history of international communism, the social history of ideas and histories of transnational anti-fascism.
I have written widely on aspects of Irish and radical history for the Guardian, Irish Times, Tribune, History Today and History Ireland, in addition to various academic publications. I also curated two exhibitions: Out in the World: Ireland’s LGBTQ+ Diaspora and Revolutionary Routes: Ireland and the Black Atlantic.
